A long-form cooperative adventure where conversation is part of the route. It is meant for a regular group, whether that group is two people or a noisy dozen.

First stop

Joining friends
without the runaround.

Start here when someone already has a game going. The host holds the save and the group journey begins from their session.

Read the official joining notes
  1. 01

    Ask who is hosting

The host starts the session and keeps the save. When they end the session, everyone else disconnects too, so the same person should host when your group returns.

  2. 02

Look for the active friend game

If you and the host are friends on the same platform service, their active game should appear in the friend-game list. This is the quickest route for most Steam and console players.

  3. 03

Use a Join Code when the list is empty

A host can share the short code generated for that session. Find it before starting in the host menu, or later under Session Details. Mac App Store players use this route because Game Center is not supported.

  4. 04

Choose the world size with the regulars in mind

When creating a session, the host chooses a 2-player, 3-player or 4+ version of the world. Treat that choice as the smallest group you expect for the session, not a cap on who can visit.

Field notes

Known rough ground.

These are launch-week checks drawn from the official troubleshooting guide, not a live outage board. Follow the source links for the current wording.

Check firstFriends / joining

My friend's session does not appear.

Confirm that you are friends through Steam, PlayStation or Nintendo Switch Online. If that does not surface the session, use the host's Join Code instead. Mac App Store players should go straight to the code.

Official steps
AudioVoice chat

Players cannot hear my voice.

Open Settings > Audio and check for microphone activity. Then rule out a muted headset, a hardware mute switch, a hold-to-talk setting or a silenced player.

Official steps
AudioVoice chat

Voices echo or sound doubled.

This usually points to microphone feedback from speakers. Narrow down the player causing it by muting in turn, then use headphones or mute when not speaking.

Official steps
ConnectionMovement / voice

Everyone is jittering, skipping or dropping out.

Reduce other heavy network use, move closer to the router or use Ethernet where possible. If the whole group sees it, have the host check their connection and frame rate too.

Official steps
DeviceController

My controller is not working.

Check the controller outside the game, then disconnect other peripherals that could be competing for input. Big Walk supports controllers on computer as well as keyboard and mouse.

Multiplayer notes

A long walk works better with a little planning.

Big Walk does not offer random matchmaking. Arrange a regular group, decide who will keep the save, then use the in-game voice or text chat so the world's communication puzzles still make sense.

Open official FAQ
Does Big Walk support crossplay?

Yes. The official FAQ confirms that players on different systems can play together. The current release is on Windows, Mac, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.

How many players can join?

Big Walk supports groups of two through twelve. The host selects a 2-player, 3-player or 4+ world version at the start of a session.

Can I play solo or use random matchmaking?

No. The game is designed as cooperative multiplayer and the developer does not provide random matchmaking. Organize a group before you set out.

Do I need a microphone?

No. In-game text chat has the same designed limitations as voice chat, so you can complete the game without a microphone. The built-in chat is still part of how the game works.

What happens when the host leaves?

The host owns the save. When their session stops, the rest of the group disconnects; to continue the same journey, that host needs to start it again.
